The story of D.EFECT
The story of D.EFECT began in 2009 in Vilnius. Designer Eglė Ona Žiemytė, a recent graduate of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, had been working on the idea of „defect effect“ and considered turning it into a ready-to-wear brand. Always starting from the observation that a defect can be a valuable design detail, Eglė began to create collections inspired by history, art, architecture and her own biography. D.EFECT clothes do not only work in the bigger context of contemporary fashion, but also have subtle, even slightly nostalgic references to Lithuanian culture, climate or even the design of folk costumes.
Throughout D.EFECT history, the brand's collections have been regularly presented in 19 different countries, at 74 points of sale. The brand has gained recognition in famous concept boutiques in Japan (Via Bus Stop), Singapore (Robinsons), Hong Kong (Vein), USA (Sloane Boutique and No.6 Store). International interest has also been encouraged by the fact that D.EFECT has been worn by Solange Knowles, Elie Goulding and well-known influencers on both sides of the Atlantic. Also, Eglė‘s work has been featured in Elle, Glamour, Marie Claire, Vogue, Refinery29 and Cosmopolitan.
In 2019, D.EFECT celebrated its tenth anniversary and presented a commemorative collection in Vilnius, after which Eglė deciced to devote herself to academia. In 2022, she successfully defended her Master's thesis on the conflict between artistic expression and commercial success at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 2024, she resumed her work in the D.EFECT studio.
Over the years, the D.EFECT team has stuck to its core principles: all materials are selected by the best specialists in their field, production is carried out in Lithuania and is constantly supervised by designers and technologists, and the design is characterised by the easily recognisable "defect effect": architectural shapes, contrasting details, deliberate and aesthetically interesting "mistakes".
